Re: Our New Players on First Showing
Agree regarding Anderson, having not seen him play before I was expecting more of a Payet type attitude.

However on several occasions he worked really hard to get back with Alexander-Arnold. was really empressed specifically when we did our classic "go from having a corner to looking like we're about to concede" and he was the first man sprinting back to break up a counter.

Can see Balbuena not finishing some games. Was very lucky not to be sent off.

'Felipe Anderson - seriously impressed me with his work rate when he didnt have the ball'

Seconded. Very impressed with that. Wasn't sure about that side of his game but looks willing.

Didn't like the insinuations from the commentator that he was diving in the first half when once got a hand to the face and also clipped from behind.

The thing about Liverpool is that is a team with 3 yrs of consistent training and coaching. All players have pace and press for 90 minutes. Its like Dortmund with a bit more money. With one of the best coaches in the world doing it.

I just think its a write off especially playing them at home.

I dont think you can learn any more from that game than if we just played Bayern or Real Madrid!

I think with a slightly slower team against us we will shine.
I think last season the only people we had good on the ball was lanzini really. Now we have Yarmalenko, Anderson and Wilshire. I think that bodes well.

Yarmalenko reminds me a bit of Dzeko. The thing I think we do miss is a big central midfielder. Like a Toure/DeBruyne type. I just dont see Noble or Wilshire doing that role.

I think the defence is better and the keeper has actually surprised me as I do now think he is better than Adrian.

I'm optimistic.

Re: Our New Players on First Showing
Fabianski - made some excellent saves, kept the scoreline from being much worse. considering the 3rd goal shouldnt have stood, to only concede 3 when Ederson for City conceded more is a good display

Balbuena - considering he was playing one of the best attacking line ups in the league and it was his first game in the premier league, id say the general did well. Wasnt afraid to try and get stuck in

Wilshire - Largely ineffective, needs more time getting used to the team and the attackers

Felipe Anderson - seriously impressed me with his work rate when he didnt have the ball. could teach antonio a lesson or 2. Like wilshire just needs more time getting used to the team

Yarmolenko - looked calm on the ball and helped restore a little confidence towards the end, must start ahead of antonio saturday

Fredericks - had a reasonable game, was up against Mane one of the best players in the league and had no support from antonio. Started to get forward once Yarmo was on but little too late then.

Will there be shockwaves on Saturday when the team rock bottom of the Premier League stuffs the team lying in 3rd place ?
Its all relative.

Re: Our New Players on First Showing
On first showing the only player to cover himself with any type of limited glory was the keeper... everyone else looked pretty shit really... luckily enough the new players will not be judged on one extremely average performance against LFC... well they shouldn't in the real normal world we live in...

Re: Our New Players on First Showing
Despite a very tough day I thought for much of the game Balbuena looked quite composed. He did mis-time some tackles and jumped in a bit but at some point you have to try and stop them. But he always looked pretty calm and didn't get flustered or run ragged. I liked the look of him.

Re: Our New Players on First Showing
I think what worries me the most is that we're now super heavy in the wide department.

If, as quite a few have said, we need to go 3 at the back - it's so tough to then incorporate Yarmolenko, Anderson, Antonio in the side when you're playing wing backs.

For the Bournemouth game I'd be tempted to go with Rice, Balbuena and Ogbonna at the back. Fredericks and Masuaka wing backs - Obiang and Wilsherre deeper lying, with Snodgrass in front - Arnie and Pea up top.

I have the feeling though that Pellegrini will stick to his guns with 4-3-3. In which case, Zabaleta has to play at RB - with Cresswell (when fit) at LB.

Phantom,

I thought that, the likes of Yarmolenko and Anderson are going to get very frustrated playing alongside Antonio, lets hope we can still con Palace for some money for him in January. You could see Arnie was pissed off at being substituted when Antonio was the obvious choice to come off.

Re: Our New Players on First Showing
The Fever Pitch author Nick Hornsby reckoned Arsenal fans used to call Thierry Henry the French Perry Groves after his first few games.

5 players on debut was always going to be difficult let alone doing it at Anfield
Need to get up to speed pretty damned quick though.

Baptism of fire for our “new” team, manager and style.

I saw lots of positives, Andersons close control and certainly initial willingness to track back was pleasing.
Fabianski solid.

The only player that had me groaning really was Antonio who doesnt seem to have much of a footballing brain. He tries to bludgeon his way through players with sheer power and speed and against the class of Liverpool, who will surely finish Top2 this season and thrash many better teams than us, he usually ended up losing the ball.

When Robert Pires first signed for Arsenal, he was knackered after his first game. He thought he couldn't handle the Premier League's pace and regretted coming to England. He turned into one of Arsenal's most important players for several years. Reminds me a bit of Anderson yesterday.

Anderson will have to toughen up quickly. A few times he barely got touched and just stopped and stared at the ref waiting for a free.

Re: Our New Players on First Showing
Some sanity on here with a slightly more realistic thread

I agree Fabianski, looked good and made a couple of class saves

Wilshere, yes although it was difficult he generally held and passed the ball and competed very well

Anderson, was good to see he got back and defended. But I was very disappointed with him going forward. He did very little and I did not see him take anyone on. I think he was surprised by what he saw.

Masuaku, as always good going forward. But also was okay defending. He took the ball off Salah a lot of times and Salah more to center and then to the right.

Noble, did not do much, passed back too much.

Rice, as always looked good on the ball and good passing. But he was all over the place I think he did not keep to his position

Central defense stood up well and not much got through them.

Fredericks good going forward, but the goals came from his side.

Arnautovic did nothing, if you never get the ball and players generally do not get forward to support you, what can you do? Similar for Chicharito

Yarmolenko and Snodgrass, both looked good, finally some players that ran a their defense and actually got past their defence.

Antonio, actually made some important defensive blocks. Ran forward as usual causing problems, but was not much of a threat.

After that display, I've decided that my nickname for Anderson will be "HOW MUCH??"
